The cooler evenings and shorter days will contribute to lower water temperatures signaling fish to feed, and the start of the fall run.

Tom’s Wave service station on Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park reports that there are still some weakfish in the area.

Porgies are also still active hitting on clams and worms. Virginia spots are on the way out, and the action is falling off. There is early evidence of some small blackfish showing up in the bay but, anglers are throwing them back because, they are small and out of season.

Tautag (blackfish)
Limits: Must be 16” limit of 4 fish
Season: October 5th–December 14th*
