Reverend Dr. James R. Taylor

Technical Inspector

Reverend Dr. James R. Taylor, a technical inspector, died on September 8th at age 88.

A Rockaway resident for more than 40 years, Rev. Dr. Taylor was called to pastor the First Baptist Church of Lawrence in 1990 and labored faithfully for the next 19 years. He retired in December 2010. He was also a member of the Eastern Baptist Association and the Nassau County Association of Black Clergy where he served as Recording Secretary and he served as Director of the food distribution program under the auspices of the Black Clergy Association and Nassau County.

Rev. Dr. James Taylor is preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Joseph Taylor and a very special aunt, Betty Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Rose J. Taylor; daughters, Keira Taylor- Banks (Bishop Steven W. Banks), Maureen Taylor and Angelisa Taylor- Burroughs; grandchildren, Eleysia Morris-Taylor, Keira Iman Banks, Jordan I. Banks, Isiah James Taylor, Arlethia Hayes, Evan Taylor, Kharma and Jhalen Burroughs; great-grandchildren, Josiah Damon and Harmony Fondren; sister-in-law, Florence Taylor; niece, Jenifer Allen and nephew, Clarence Taylor Jr.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home in Inwood.
