Call To Artists: Calm/Storm/Rebirth
With the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy rapidly approaching, the Rockaway Artists Alliance has launched a call to artists for Calm/Storm/Rebirth, an exhibition which seeks to bring the storm and its aftermath to life through art.
Exploring the beauty of the Rockaways and Broad Channel before the storm, the chaos and disaster during it and not only the loss, but rebuilding and rebirth that came after, Calm/Storm/Rebirth is open to all artists, whether they are local, within the U.S. or international. It is open to all media, including but not limited to painting, photography, watercolor, stained glass, film and video, artisan crafts, sculpture, music, the literary arts, cartoon, assemblage and more.
Artists may submit up to six works for consideration for this juried exhibition. More information as well as submission forms can be found at www.rockawayartistsalliance.org. The submission deadline is September 27th.
Calm/Storm/Rebirth will run from October 19th to November 10th in the RAA’s T-7 gallery at Fort Tilden. The gallery will be arranged so that viewers can chronologically walk through the ‘before, during and after’, phases of the storm. There will be a special opening reception on Sunday, October 27th. Marking just a few days before the storm hit one year ago, a special program and observances are planned.
