Big BCAC Football Kickoff!
Hundreds turned out for the event at the BCAC Memorial Field off Cross Bay Boulevard. Young athletes received their new team jerseys and enthusiastic cheerleaders and players were individually introduced, one by one, to the cheering crowd.
Coaches and special guests also received a grand welcome.
Organizers acknowledged this was an even more special celebration as it marked the first football season since the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. They noted also it was one more step in the recovery of the community.
In keeping with that theme, the BCAC announced that unlike previous seasons which were dedicated to individuals, this year was dedicated to all the teams and all of Broad Channel.
Every player took the field in brand new jerseys and gear.
Many special acknowledgements were made to those who tirelessly worked to literally salvage the season from the storm, even amid the possibility that there would be no football program this year.
Even against those odds, BCAC football came roaring back.
