Women’s Surf Film Fest Is Sept. 7th
Lava Girl Surf, the women’s surfing, education and events company, is presenting Women Of the Seven Seas, a women’s surf film festival, at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club on Saturday, September 7th.
The Film Festival features curated shorts from around the world, such as Australia, Italy, South America and United States. The festival will include a photo exhibit by Samantha Casolari, an Italian born photographer and video artist who is now based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including New York, London, Paris and Italy. In this exhibit, she captures the everyday moments of surfers here on the east coast with her unique style of dreamlike painterly images.
The festival will showcase women who are carving their own paths through the world of surfing with a decidedly female poise and style. From the story of Belinda Baggs and her board, Evo, finding its way back into the hands of its creator, Wayne Lynch, in Australia, to the travels of three Latin Americans and one Kiwi with the world champion Sofia Mulanovich from Peru, the films highlight these women’s passion for the ocean and riding the waves.
Guests who arrive early will receive surf-inspired swag bags and everyone will have a chance to win prizes from sponsors at Patagonia Surf, Seea Swimwear, Goldie’s Skincare and more. Organizers say it’s a great chance to meet up with fellow female surfers in the community and be able to connect off the water. There will be also be food, cocktails and music.
The Film Festival will be Saturday September, 7:00 p.m. at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club, 302 Beach 87th Street. For more information visit lavagirlsurf.com.
