The Fishing Report
Ron at “Big Ron’s Bait and Tackle” in Howard Beach reports that Porgies are now on the inside as well as the outside, the fish are hitting on clams, sand worms and blood worms.
Weakfish in the 8-10 lb. range are now in Jamaica Bay, and making their presence known to anglers who present them with sand worms and clams.
Blue claw crabs are also on the dock structures and pilings of Jamaica Bay for the picking.
Cocktail blues (and bigger) in the 6 to 10 pound range (with an 11 pound blue reported) are now here on the inside of Jamaica Bay and are hitting on Bunker.
East End Report:
Debs Inlet and east of the Atlantic Beach Bridge:
Bernie Matzen reports that approximately 40 fluke were taken on board his boat but Bernie had only ONE “keeper” at 19. The rest went back into the bay.
Anglers fishing the local areas and Beach Channel Drive west wall area are reminded to clean up after themselves. Fish hooks, mono-filament fishing line, plastic bags, unused bait, fish carcasses, trash etc., should be disposed of properly in trash containers. Keep in mind that pets and children also frequent these areas.
