Surf’s up! Residents and visitors are invited to come out for the 9th Annual Richie Allen Memorial Surf Classic on Sunday, September 8th.

Taking place at Beach 97th Street, surfers of all ages can come out for a day of beach and water fun as they remember Firefighter Richie Allen who was killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Among the day’s activities are a surf contest for younger surfers, 11 and younger and those from 12-15. Signup starts at 8 a.m. and the contest starts at 9 a.m. There will also be swimming, surfing and boogie boarding with boards and wetsuits provided by Boarders Surf Shop. The event will also include a DJ, food, drinks, t-shirts, prizes and handouts and a traditional paddle out will be held in memory of Allen, who was a brother, son, uncle, friend and hero to many.
