Photos by Gary Guerriero Under sparkling sunny skies and with 80 degree temperatures and a brisk north wind, the fifth annual Uncle Richie Farrell Memorial Stand Up Paddle race hit the water on Saturday, August 24th.

Organized by Dennis and Donna Farrell of the West End Paddlers, and their sons Damien and Dylan, the event was held at the Rockaway Point Yacht Club cove in Breezy Point.

Thirty - seven paddlers along with spectators showed up to celebrate, honor and remember Uncle Richie of the surfing Farrell family and raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation research effort.

It included the Lord’s Prayer in Hawaiian chanted by Charles Kaupo of the Grammy award winning Hawaiian group HAPA. Rick Anthony acted as the M.C. and worked the sound system.
