I believe that optimum health and happiness root from maintaining a well-rounded balanced lifestyle. Living consciously, finding moderation, staying active, and keeping a diet rich in whole nutritious foods helps us feel our best; and if we as individuals are good, everything around us will be better because of it.

The pollution and congestion in our environment can make us feel achy, lethargic, or out of sync. It can cause digestive problems, skin problems, stress, or weight gain. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, it might be time to consider a healthy body detox. Better your liver function and digestion by building your diet around fruits and vegetables. The following are five of the best foods to jumpstart your body cleanse. Incorporate them in your diet for a saner, more balanced, more energetic you! BEETS are packed with vitamins B3, B6, beta-carotene, and C. They are also a great source of calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc– minerals essential for toxin elimination. Beets help maintain a healthy liver and gallbladder, key organs for breaking down contaminants and ridding them from the body. And that’s not all: the high amount of fiber present in the food helps improve digestion by pushing waste out. Furthermore, beets are high in antioxidants and low in calories. Try a raw grated beet and carrot salad. Add a pinch of salt, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of oil; mix and enjoy!

APPLES are rich in pectin, which is said to help rid the body of radioactive waste. Pectin attracts harmful toxins, binds to them, and pushes them through the intestines and out of the body. To reap maximum benefits, keep the skin on and choose organic apples.

GARLIC, as you might already know, is the best natural antibiotic out there. Its antibacterial and antiviral properties help rid the body of bad bacteria, while pumping up the immune system. It also stimulates liver enzymes, which helps cleanse the body. To get the maximum health benefits, crush or chop raw garlic and let sit for five to ten minutes before consuming. Add raw garlic to dressings and sauces for a burst of flavor and nutrition!

LEMON is rich in vitamin C and enhances the body’s alkalinity, which helps balance the acidity of the foods we consume and puts the body in a better state of equilibrium. Start your day off by squeezing lemon in warm water and drinking first thing in the morning. It will aid digestion, cleanse your system, boost your mood, and encourage weight loss!

FLAXSEEDS, just two tablespoons of this “super food” will provide you with your daily ration of omega-3. Omega-3 contributes to healthy cell development, supports the metabolism, and helps the body more efficiently absorb manganese, an essential mineral for proper bodily function.
