Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Fun, sport and getting together all come into play every Sunday at the The Stop the Violence Community Softball Tournaments. With the success of this year’s Stack Bundles Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament, the community could not stop at just basketball. The Stop the Violence Community Softball Tournaments started three weeks ago.

Every Sunday at 2 p.m. young people from the Rockaways come together for some fun and a friendly game of softball. The teams are made up of players from different developments throughout Far Rockaway.

These games take place at the ball field in back of the Redfern Houses. These games are covered on Youtube by I Grind Do You, and supported by Mose’s Barbershop in Far Rockaway, and Hollywood Chuck, a local promoter and owner of Cave Lounge.

“It’s a beautiful thing when we can come together and do something positive for the community. We can show the younger generation that life is about having fun. It’s not about guns and killing one another,” said Queen Esther, who hosts the games weekly

Come out and support the movement as we help to change the culture of violence that has infected our community.

What a beautiful initiative

What a beautiful initiative in the Rockaways! I taught for nine years in Far Rockaway and you have some great families that are being overshadowed by reports of violence. It's nice to see the focus on the positive side of Far Rockaway.
