Team Effort Helps Beautify 114
The Belle Harbor Property Owners teamed up with the Parents Association of PS/MS-114 to work on replacing the various trees and shrubs surrounding the school. The work is still in progress but a substantial amount was completed in two days.
The organizers thanked Ianni Landscaping and Anthony Ianni, who spent a full day with a bobcat removing all the dead trees and bushes and preparing the soil for planting. Peter Larkin, John Signorelli, Nancy Koulouris-Erigo, Linda Benigno, and Hank Iori from the BHPOA in conjunction with the two copresidents of the school’s PTA, Irene Dougherty and Noelle Burns, teacher Elaine Daly and John on the custodial staff helped with a team of Parks Department staff and other parents in the planting.
Home Depot located on Cropsey Avenue in Brooklyn gave a 25 percent reduction for all the trees and plants. Robby Schwach, representing Councilman Eric Ulrich’s office, who is also an involved parent helped in the planning process. Dr. Harold Paez, a parent of a student at the school, was able to procure a grant to help in the funding for the materials. Additional funding came from the BHPOA and Barbara and Peter Larkin. Nancy Barthold, Assistant Commissioner of the Parks Department who sent a team from the Jamaica Bay/Rockaway Parks Restoration Corps was praised for her effort as well. Hank Iori said, “A good time was had by all and we as a community have moved closer to restoring and enhancing our community.”
