Thanks For The Help

Dear Editor:

Recently, I dislocated my shoulder while body surfing, suffering nerve damage that has left my right arm/hand/ fingers inoperable. I need to publicly thank and acknowledge the anonymous young boy who called NYC lifeguards Janet Fash and L. G. Arnold for help. I also want to help FDNY EMTs/Metrotech Harold Long and Hopeton Hendricks who transported me from Far Rockaway beach to St. John's Hospital, and emergency medicine Dr. Khan, internal medicine resident Dr. Patel, and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Horvath, who gifted me with two apples after my trauma.

The medical team worked in what could only be described as a closet. Based on my experience of other hospitals (such as New York Hospital), St. John's is in desperate need of a well-resourced and sizable facility. For being the only hospital for the peninsula and surrounding areas, it falls tragically short.

Again, thank you to all of those generous, loving people.

S.C. SAMOY
