Rally at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital
Locals will be rallying outside of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital to demand that it stays open and to call for quality healthcare, rebuilding and good jobs at Rockaway’s only remaining hospital.
Residents are invited to join nurses, healthcare workers, elected officials, clergy and community members for a march and rally outside of the hospital at 327 Beach 19th Street from 4-7 p.m. on August 14th to demand that the hospital gets an upgrade and stops cutting services. The St. John’s Episcopal Board of Trustees recently turned down a potential merger with North Shore LIJ Health systems. They also closed the Detox Unit and are in discussions to close the Dialysis Unit.
Workers, residents and others are calling for St. John’s to merge with a first class health system and to stop cutting services. They’re also demanding for the Hurricane Sandy tracking bill to ensure that funds are coming to the Rockaways quickly. Rally organizers ask all to join the fight and help send a strong message to the Mayor and Governor.
