Build Dunes and Drink Wine!

Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation are inviting locals and visitors to help build dunes along the beach in an effort to keep Rockaway Beach “barefoot friendly.”

Volunteers are welcome to join the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project and create dunes on Saturday, August 10th from 11-2 p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Surfrider tent on the beach near the 44th Street A-Train stop off Rockaway Freeway.

The beach restoration project will be followed by a celebration organized by the Surfrider Foundation. The party, taking place from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at 183 Beach 96th Street, will feature Barefoot Wine, surf-inspired fare and a live musical performance by acclaimed rock artist Ryan Star, who will sing songs from his new EP, Animals. The celebration is open to those 21 and over.

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is in its seventh year. This year, Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation have set out on a tour of 15 cleanups across the country.

Those interested in volunteering must RSVP at BeachRescue2013.com.

Complimentary transportation is available to those coming from Manhattan. A shuttle departs 41 Madison Avenue at 26th Street at 9:30 a.m. and returns after the celebration. To register for a spot on the shuttle, email Blaine Rueber at brueber@hunterpr.com.
