Hold The State Accountable

Dear Editor:

In a state that gave us George Bush by decree, a state that continues to make restrictions to hinder the voting rights of minority and poor voters, a young man was lynched. This lynching was not done by rope; but by a law. This law, have no doubts about it, only benefits those whom the powers to be deem acceptable.

In the majority of States, George Zimmerman’s own words and subsequent actions would have been enough to convict him. I have no doubt that there was a confrontation. George Zimmerman took steps to assure there would be one. Trayvon (Young Black wearing a hoodie in the rain) Martin did not. He succeeded.

We probably can no longer punish Zimmerman for his actions but we can punish the state that made it possible. I was making a major online purchase and realized the company was in Florida so I went elsewhere. I propose a Florida boycott by all those who believe this (Stand Your Ground) law is wrong.

This can be done in the following manner. Find another beach or amusement park. When refusing to purchase from the Florida companies, email their Customer Services with the following statement. (Change the Law). We must also support the voting rights organizations with capital to help those whose financial status or mobility makes it hard to get identification.

Voting identification laws were made to hinder and disenfranchise.
