Mayor Honors Action Center
The 12th Annual Neighborhood Achievement Awards including the Helping Hand Award was held on the lawn of the Gracie Mansion on Monday, July 15th. The awards sought to honor a business, organization, or individual that went above and beyond to help people, businesses, and neighborhoods affected by Sandy.
Following citywide voting for the selected 10 nominees, the Action Center for Education and Development received nearly 6,000 of the total 10,000 votes cast for their work in providing services and relief goods to the Rockaway community in Sandy’s aftermath. The remaining votes were divided among the other nine nominees.
Aria Doe, the executive director and co-founder of the Action Center noted, “Receiving this award was humbling and reaffirmed the continued need for our work. It was truly uplifting to come to know that nearly 6,000 residents throughout New York recognized our efforts in the Rockaway community. To the voters, I extend a heartfelt thank you.”
