18th Annual Sand Castle Contest Set For July 28th

The 18th annual Sand Castle Contest is set for Sunday, July 28th.

Participants of all ages are welcome to show off their artistic talent on the beach. The contest will be held at noon on Beach 116th Street. Registration begins at 10 a.m. on the boardwalk.

Contestants are encouraged to use buckets, long-handled shovels, plastic kitchen utensils, putty knives, melon ballers, paint scrapers, paint brushes and other tools to help create their design. All of the castle or sculpture decoration must be found on the beach.

Everyone will be given an official medal for participating and there are contests for different age categories including dhildren under eight years old with an adult, children from 9- 13 and everyone 14 and over. First, second and third place trophies will be given out for each category. The contest is sponsored by West End Realty and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
