More than sixty young players along with their parents and residents were on hand as representatives of the Mets and cable network SNY came to Broad Channel on Wednesday, June 26th, to make a very special donation.

As part of their charitable youth baseball program called “Play Ball!” they donated $5,000 to help the BCAC continue rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy.

At the special presentation was BCAC softball commissioner Barbara Corbett as well as coaches, parents and team supporters.

Kids took the opportunity to take pictures with an amazing Mr. Met. Some moms got into the picture, too.

The little league’s story will also be featured on the Mets children’s show Kids Clubhouse which will air on Sunday, August 4th.

SNY will be bringing about 200 kids from the league to Citifield on August 7th for the actual check presentation.

The Broad Channel Athletic Association, which provides a variety of year round sports programs, has been a mainstay of the island community for more than 50 years.
