CB 14 Beach Updates

According to an update from Community Board 14, the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) should be staging equipment on or around July 22nd and then begin the actual sand placement within 3-5 days of that. The project will start in the areas from Beach 86th and 108th Streets and is expected to take a few weeks to complete if all goes well.

CB 14 also advises that work by the company contracted by NYC Parks and Recreation to remove the wood groins between Beach 88th and 90th Streets may begin as early as Friday, July 12th.

While work is in progress at the surfing beach between Beach 88th and 92nd Streets, surfers will be relocated to the stretch between Beach 92nd and Beach 97th Streets.

The Parks Department plans, according to CB 14, is to move the surfing area to Beach 60th-70th Streets for several weeks when the Army Corps is replenishing the beach areas that allow surfing.

CB 14 also reminds residents to advise friends, visitors and family members to not go swimming when life guards are not on duty.
