Ulrich Needs To Reach Out

Dear Editor:

Residents and community groups including Brothers for Peace & Social Change, the Rockaway Youth Task Force, Stop Stop and Frisk and the Wildfire Project organized by Rockaway Park resident Josmar Trujillo came together on Saturday to demand that post-Sandy Rockaway be rebuilt with as much social and racial justice as planned storm-resistant infrastructure. Inequity and injustice have no place in a community that has pledged to be "united" moving forward. We gathered Saturday to show that we will not let the status quo of racial profiling in Far Rockaway continue.

Councilman Eric Ulrich has refused to schedule a meeting with the Rockaway Youth Task Force to discuss his stance with community residents who live and go to school in his district in regards to the Community Safety Act before the bill comes to a vote.

I'm shocked and appalled by the unresponsiveness of the Councilmember. How does he have such a strong stance on a position without speaking to young minority youth who this bill directly impacts?
