RAA Makes Music Under The Super Moon
Billed as a Summer Solstice Celebration, it was also RAA’s contribution to Make Music New York. Now it in its seventh year, MMNY presents more than 1,000 free music events in public spaces around the city. Corresponding celebrations of music also occur in cities across the country and around the world on the same day.
RAA has been involved in the event for several years, and also presents both Winter and Summer solstice events.
The festive crowd enjoyed a roster of well-known Rockaway, Broad Channel and area talent and guests. Appearing on RAA’s Moonstage at Fort Tilden were Jammin’ Jon Kiebon, The Como Brothers, Mike Benedetto, Squid, Indaculture, Poorhouse, Walker and the Brotherhood of the Grape, ZEPS, Will Flow and others. Special host and MC was Sheelaa.
Organizers wished to thank all of the talented musicians who donated their time and the volunteers who helped publicize, set up, run the event and clean up. From the stage they also gave a special thanks to the National Park Service.
The MMNY/Summer Solstice definitely resonated with the large audience that turned out, being one of the first outdoor music events since Hurricane Sandy struck more than seven months ago.
Said one man, “It was great. It was a great night with great music. It made Rockaway feel normal again.”
