Pre-4th Campfire On The Beach

By Dan Guarino

What’s more summer, and Rockaway, than a campfire on the beach?

On Wednesday, July 3rd, from 7 to 10 p.m., the National Park Service will honor an “NPS tradition” by “kicking off the Independence Day weekend with a beach campfire!”

Noting that anyone can come and no reservations are required, NPS invites participants to enjoy the outdoor evening by the shore, “take part in a sing-along and…(maybe) even spy fireworks shows on Long Island or in New Jersey.”

The event will take place at Jacob Riis Park at the Boardwalk and Beach 169th Street

Riis Park, a part of Gateway National Recreation Area, can be reached by car or by Q22 or Q35 buses.

Says NPS, “Bring fixings for s’mores, a chair, or blanket.“

“Reservations are not required!”
