Photos by Miriam Rosenberg This past Saturday, June 22nd, Allied Rockaway Foundation for Animal Recreation and Fitness (ARF ARF) held its first event at the Rockaway Freeway Dog Park since Superstorm Sandy hit in October.

The storm destroyed many of the trees and during repairs to the adjacent A train tracks, MTA machinery left major ruts in the ground and damaged a bench and storage unit.

ARF ARF representatives said the NYC Parks Department did a wonderful job in getting the park back into shape. In addition, volunteers helped ARF ARF repair the damaged storage unit.

ARF ARF used It’s My ‘Bark’ Day! Luau Celebration as a shelter drive to collect pet toys, litter, blankets, sheets, towels, newspaper, cleaning supplies, and unopened food to be distributed among animal rescues in the five boroughs.
