Channel View Helps Tornado Victims

Students at Channel View School for Research (CVSR) have been looking for ways to help residents of Moore, Oklahoma since the tornado hit. On Friday, June 14th, Channel View's 6th graders held a walk-a-thon raising money as each student walked more than 18 laps.

Students were sponsored by family, friends and staff. Combined they raised over $1000. The top three fundraisers were Marian Gavinovich $163, Jenna Shakur $135 and Marcus Dawes $100. The top three walkers include Reed Smith and Shamar Williams (29 laps) and Hannah Wickersham (26 laps).

DonorsChoose.org was the online charity chosen by 6th grade teacher, Barbara Mannion and Community Assistant, Lauren O'Connor. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go directly to teachers and students aiding them in the rebuilding of schools in Moore, Oklahoma.

CVSR is an EL school with grades 6 - 12, where community service is an important part of helping students build character. Anyone interested in donating along with the school can visit DonorsChoose.org search: Channel View School for Research.
