Slice Of Life
One of the few benefits since Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy is the Seastreak Ferry. If you have not taken a ride into Manhattan yet, do it. My husband and I enjoyed a Friday night cruise a few Fridays ago that we stayed on for a “three hour tour.”
My husband and I often joke around that if it weren’t for bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all. Of course the night we choose to go into Manhattan for dinner on the 4:30 ferry, there was a monsoon. Luckily the water was calm, even though the rain was pouring. We even met an old family friend on the boat and we were having a blast. Of course the stories were about my dad. When we told our friend where we were going for dinner, he recommended we stay on the boat until the next stop. As we were docked and relaxing, my husband asked if we should ask the crew if the boat had another stop? I said of course not, our friend is very city savvy and if he says the boat has another stop, then the boat has another stop. We should have asked. As soon as the boat pulled away we realized we were on our way back to the Rock. Well of course the boat has another stop but you need to transfer.
My husband, always the honest one, informed one of the crew and asked if we had to pay an additional $2. The crew felt so bad for us they told us not to worry. So for $4 for the both of us we had a very enjoyable cruise. We had tochangeourdinnerreservationsofcourse,sincewestartedwitha6o’clock reservation and did not arrive into Manhattan until 7:45. (FYI: We started our journey at 4:30).
I often hear residents stating that there is not enough to do in Rockaway. The Seastreak Ferry is a great way to enjoy a nice night. Even if you do not get off at Manhattan just enjoy the view, comfort and $3 beverages. They even had copies of The Wave for sale.
Happy summer everyone. As a teacher, I am super excited not to have to get up in the mornings. As a mom, I am happy not to have to wake up my daughter every morning. That is a column in itself.
