Help Save The Ferry!

Dear Editor:

I want to alert every resident that our $2 ferry from Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive is scheduled to end July 12th. This is the first form of transportation we have ever had that takes us from Rockaway to downtown and midtown Manhattan in well under an hour. At Wall Street there are a flock of subway lines that zip uptown and at the East 34th Street stop the crosstown buses wait for the ferries to come in and take you crosstown without having to wait.

If you have not tried the ferry take it one day this week. They run from 5:45 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. in the morning and start returning to Rockaway from 2:45 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. The seats are comfortable and roomy. There’s a large flat screen TV and the top deck refreshments and breakfast. Adding to your convenience there’s a FREE parking lot across the street for ferry riders only. All of this for $2. A Rockaway dream come true.

The EDC is convening in a week to determine whether to continue the subsidy. Phillip Goldfeder, our State representative, is collecting petitions to extend the subsidy. Time is of the essence, so I urge you to sign up online at www.keeprockawayferry.com If you don’t have a computer, you can call his office at 718-641-8755 or visit his office on Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 95th

Street and Beach 96th Street (across from the Q53 bus stop).

Even though you may not ride the ferry, there may come a time when you will, so please sign up. We need every signature. Thank you all.
