Scholars’ Golf Best Season Ever
Scholars’ Academy Boys Golf Team has completed its most successful season ever.
The Scholars’ Boys Golf Team was the number 5 seed in the PSAL Golf Playoffs. Every golf team with a winning record was awarded a playoff spot. Scholars’ drew Grand Street Campus from Queens South, with its 9-1 record, in the first round of the playoffs.
The match took place at Kissena Golf Course. With heavy rain coming down the coaches decided to tough it out and play.
The Scholars’ team battled both Grand Street and the weather to prevail 4 to 1 and, for the third year in the row, move on to the second round of the playoffs.
In the previous three seasons Scholars’ was defeated in the second round. This time they had to face the number 4 seed Petrides team from Staten Island, at Marine Park Golf Course.
For one of the few times this season the game was played under perfectly blue skies. The team from Petrides was talented, but Scholars’ prevailed 3 to 1.
For the first time in its five year history, the Scholars’ Golf Team advanced to the third round of the playoffs.
In the third round Scholars’ faced the number 1 seed McKee/Staten Island Tech at La Tourette Golf Course on Staten Island.
Again the weather was perfect and the matches were intense. Scholars’ fought each match to the end but lost 5 to 0. The team was sad but still proud of all their accomplishments.
The Scholars’ Golf Team finished as the fourth best golf team in all of the PSAL and was undefeated in league play.
The team is saying goodbye to senior golfers Daniel Orlowski, David Sullivan, Chris Sanicola and Casey Shamloo, but is looking forward to the 2013- 2014 golf season.
