Men’s Health Awareness Festival Is On
The Rockaways have been described as a community plagued with violence, high unemployment and one of the highest rates of HIV in our city. June is Men's Health Awareness Month and is a perfect time to address issues that plague us.
Queen Esther, one of the organizers and driving forces behind the 1st Annual Men's Health Awareness Festival, said “With the summer and warmer temperatures right around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to address these concerns while highlighting and showcasing some of the best talent the Rockaways have to offer.” The festival is being held at O'Donahue Park, Beach 17th Street, on June 15th, from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
One issue in our nation and in our community rarely addressed is Men's health issues. Everyone recognizes the medical aspect of health but fails to connect the dots when it comes to violence. One of the leading causes of death of males between the ages of 16 and 24 is gun violence. That issue is among others that will be highlighted to bring attention to this problem which continues to destroy families and innocent bystanders.
The 1st Annual Men's Health Awareness Festival has been made possible by a dedicated team that volunteered their time and resources to put together a program which the community will appreciate and remember.
