Lynch Sentenced In Girlfriend’s Murder
Far Rockaway resident David Lynch has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Althea Lewis.
Lynch punched and drowned Lewis on the beach near Beach 32nd Street in the pre-dawn hours of November 23, 2010.
Lynch, of 1074 Gipson Street, had served two tours in Iraq and was a reservist in the New York National Guard at the time of the incident.
He was convicted of second degree murder in March of this year.
According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, whose office prosecuted the case, Lynch and Lewis, a resident of Springfield Gardens, were on the beach in Rockaway. An argument erupted and Lynch violently attacked Lewis.
Her body was later discovered by police. The Medical Examiner determined Lewis died as a result of blunt force injury and drowning.
