Again, Where Is The Protection?

Dear Editor:

We walked up to the beach today where we live in Rockaway Park and just can't believe there is STILL NO PROTECTION on our beaches. It is amazing how the ones who are supposed to protect us have not done so. It seems to always come down to the mighty $$$, and yes we know "they are saying" the $$$ is there but does it matter there is still no protection. Meetings after meetings, discussions with agencies and more discussions plus that magic word STUDIES... let's all wake up June 1st is here. It now has been over seven months and still no PROTECTION. We are so angry and we know many others are too. People are so busy here rebuilding their homes, lawns, putting up new fences spending lots of money to get back to a normal life again. Our City, agencies etc. all know this so they go and put PROTECTION on the back burners, what a shame.

There have been numerous demonstrations, walks, rallies, a press conference (steps of City Hall) and a peaceful demonstration on beach opening day. We still find it shocking that most often it is the same people who are always continuing the fight for Rockaway and Broad Channel's survival.
