Healing At The Ocean
Based on the positive success of an initial spiritual healing by the ocean session on Friday, May 31st, psychotherapist and spiritual coach Jill Lauri has started a “Rockaway Healing Circle.”
As she notes, the purpose is to help “Rockaway residents heal from Hurricane Sandy with creative, holistic and spiritual approaches.”
Lauri will facilitate the group which is free for Rockaway residents and will be held on Saturday, June 15, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The session will begin at the Beach 91st Street Community Garden between Holland Avenue and Shore Front Parkway.
Participants in the first small, informal group shared their feelings and experiences of the hurricane and its aftermath, and later took a walk together to the ocean at Beach 86th Street.
“It felt like a great release,” said one man. “It was good to talk about things you’re feeling, and see other people are feeling the same things, too.”
Notes Lauri, “Adversity is an invitation to grow our soul and reach our highest potential. While we cannot change the past, if we are open and willing, we can come to understand and learn the lessons presented. Through integrating our experience with Hurricane Sandy, we can create a “New Normal.”
