A Vote For Christie

Dear Editor:

As I sit here this morning watching the Today Show, there is steam coming out of my ears. New Jersey’s Governor Christie is on the show, proudly cutting the ribbon on their new boardwalk on the opening day of summer at the Jersey Shore. And here we are in Rockaway, no boardwalk in the foreseeable future, watching the installation of the new lifeguard/comfort stations!

Are you kidding me with these monstrosities? They look like some old trailers that have been sitting in someone’s backyard since 1951!! $2 million for each of these? What a scam! Those of us who are old enough to remember Watergate know the meaning of the phrase “Follow the Money”.” It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if following the money spent on these ugly eyesores led back to some relative of some politician somewhere who is now laughing all the way to the French Riviera! No one in their right mind would have ever picked these things for our beach! Or any beach for that matter. No one, except someone who was raking in the money for dumping these eyesores on the City of New York!

Did $40 million dollars really need to be spent on these things? What was wrong with the bathrooms everyone’s been using for over 60 years that are already in place right next to the concessions? And what about using the old first aid stations in the concession areas for the lifeguards? The lifeguards on duty are on the beach, not in a trailer, and should only need a small place to function as an office, which the old first aid rooms could easily do, no? Without a doubt, $40 million dollars could have been put to better use by rebuilding the thing we need most….a BOARDWALK! And I mean a WHOLE boardwalk, not some postage stamp boardwalk (a.k.a. “islands”) around the concessions. A BOARDWALK like we had before, that stretched from Beach 9th Street to Beach 126th Street! Anything short of that is useless!

If Governor Christie ever decides to run for Governor of New York, I would venture to bet that every one of you Rockaway girls and guys would vote for him. I know I would! And I’m not even a Republican! He would know how to get the job done, not like those two inept so-called leaders that we have…..Cuomo and Bloomberg!

I invite our Governor, Andrew Cuomo, to come here to see where the money is going that should be spent on a new boardwalk! Someone needs to look into this disgraceful waste of money., And someone needs to get our boardwalk rebuilt! And while you are at it, someone needs to get the beach raked…….it is life-threatening to walk on the sand the way it is, with nails, glass, wood, etc.
