Stay Tuned In June

One thing we know is that dates are never firm when it comes to the government (unless they tell you that you have a deadline). FEMA told us mid-May on the new flood maps. The Army Corps said beach replenishment should begin in June. Hesco barriers were going to be tried in April. And so on.

Here’s what SHOULD happen in the coming weeks.

Money will be available for some through the Community Development Block Grants. Look in The Wave for website links and for community meetings to address questions you might have.

New Flood maps will be coming out. These are updated maps and will likely be changed again but they are getting closer to the final maps that will determine various flood zones. It’s vitally important to stay informed.

The SIRR report will be issued. After Sandy, Mayor Bloomberg put a team together to make recommendations about rebuilding and recovery. There will be a wide assortment of findings and recommendations. From this report, we should get a clearer picture of what the City (and Sandy money) will mean for the future of Rockaway.

Beach replenishment is supposed to start. We don’t have to remind anyone that hurricane season is around the corner. Trap bags are supposed to be installed for more beach protection.

It’s all supposed to happen in June. Stay tuned.
