Memorial Day Parades Set
On Monday, May 27th the American Legion Daniel M. O’Connell Post #272 will host its annual Memorial Day Parade. The day will commence with a memorial mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church on Beach 129th Street.
At the conclusion of services, a ceremony will be held at the Four Chaplains Memorial outside the church. The parade will assemble and march to Beach 121st Street for a ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial Circle. Following that, the parade will continue to the Doughboy monument at Veteran’s Memorial Plaza at Beach 94th Street. Following the reading of the names of those from the Rockaway community who gave their lives in service of the country, there will be gathering for refreshments and hot dogs at the Knights of Columbus at 330 Beach 90th Street.
Grand Marshals this year will be Commander James Trainor and his daughter Auxiliary President Theresa Trainor.
In Broad Channel the parade, hosted by the VFW, will take place on Sunday, May 26th. The parade will start at 1:30 p.m. with participants meeting at Rock N Roll Bagel at 12:30 p.m. to line up.
Honorees will be the veterans from St. Albans Hospital, the VFW and the American Legion. Also marching will be the Broad Channel Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts. Hot dogs and beverages will be available at the VFW post following the parade.
