Gateway To Abandonment

Dear Editor:

I couldn’t agree with last week’s editorial. Gateway’s motto should be Gateway National Recreation Area...A waste is a terrible thing to mind.

They will give their usual excuse of no money but that doesn’t explain why the bay side of Riis has look like a third world fish camp. Why is Sandy Hook, which is part of Gateway doing so well? They put 30 million into the bath house that was never used. It’s not lack of money but mishandling of that money.

They want to kick out Rockaway Little League to bring Fort Tilden back to “Its natural state.” I guess it’s natural state is falling down, abandoned. They are supposed to be caretakers of the land but maybe they should just take care. It was better maintained when the city had it, hard as it is to believe.

If Gateway was owned privately they would all be terminated, but this is the government so they automatically get promoted after enough time served in their sinecures.
