Big Weekend For RAA

This Sunday, May 19th, the Rockaway Artists Alliance will be hosting its first exhibition since Hurricane Sandy.  “RAA On Jamaica Bay” will hold its opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m.at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center off Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel.

The exhibition will feature works in a variety of media that touch on the many moods and views of Jamaica Bay. Plans for the showcase, first discussed in September, resumed shortly after the storm.

Many of the artists will be on hand for the opening celebration, which will also feature refreshments and live entertainment by RAA member musicians and the RAA Writers Group.

The RAA Writers Group will also be performing a program of original poetry, prose, short plays and music written, produced and performed by its members at the Sip This Café from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The popular Valley Stream coffeehouse is located at 64 Rockaway Avenue.

Even as they resume activities at their newly re-opened Fort Tilden gallery and educational spaces, the Rockaway Artists Alliance is looking forward to more programs that take them further afield.
