Bringing New York City politics face to face with the Rockaways, Assembly District Leader Lew Simon hosted a Democratic Mayoral candidate forum on Thursday, April 25th.

The evening event was held at the Good Government Regular Democratic Club headquarters, located in the Ocean Promenade Rehabilitation and Nursing Center building.

In attendance were City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Councilman Sal Albanese, Comptroller John Liu and former Comptroller Bill Thompson.

All are vying for the seat that current Mayor Michael Bloomberg will vacate in 2014.

The following week Simon hosted candidates for the office of Public Advocate. On hand were Professor Catherine Guerriero, Councilmember Leticia James, former Deputy Public Advocate Reshma Saujani, State Senator Daniel Squadron and Sidique Wai.

The Public Advocates post is currently held by Bill de Blasio.

Simon noted that residents from Rockaway, Breezy Point, Broad Channel and Howard Beach all came out to both events to hear the candidates’ views and also ask questions directly. Many took the opportunity to speak with the candidates after the program.

Elections will be held on November 5th, 2013.
