Rally To Save Queens Libraries

By Katie McFadden

Love the library? Then help fight for it! Local libraries are holding a rally against proposed New York City budget cuts which could hurt libraries across the borough.

Queens Library is urging the City Council and the Mayor of New York City to stabilize library funding and fully restore the proposed cut to funding to Queens Library next year. The City plans to cut 35 percent of the funding, or nearly $30 million, to libraries, which could force some Queens libraries to close. The budget cuts may also force some libraries to reduce their hours and lay off staff.

To fight the cuts, staff and supporters of the libraries in Far Rockaway, Arverne, Peninsula, Seaside and Howard Beach are holding a rally at the Peninsula library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) on Wednesday, May 15th from 5-7 p.m. The outdoor rally (weather permitting) will feature a live DJ and guest speakers such as Councilman Eric Ulrich and Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder. All are welcome to join.
