Good Morning America Surprises Point Breeze Fire Department

The Point Breeze Fire Department performed heroically the night of Sandy. While battling the flood and fires, much of their equipment was destroyed. They’ve been raising money with the hope of adding a second floor to the important volunteer firehouse. On Tuesday morning, ABC’s Sam Champion and the Good Morning America team made a visit to Breezy Point.

As part of their ongoing, “You’re Not Dreaming” series, Champion presented Fire Chief Marty Ingram with a check for $10,000 from Direct Relief, a medical relief organization, to make the costly repairs a reality. According to ABC, Direct Relief will also donate specially-made first responder kits, containing supplies and equipment to meet a variety of prevalent disaster related health needs, to the team. The packs ensure that first responders have the right tools to respond when disaster strikes.

Jim Killoran of Habitat for Humanity who has been in Breezy since soon after the storm said his organization will give the supplies and manpower to help get the job done.
