Inspired By Ideas Wanted Column

Inventor Matt Whelan, a devoted Wave reader and a fan of the Ideas Wanted column had a brainstorm himself while reading Rick Horan’s column: a Rockaway tide clock!

Matt and his wife, Sue, though now living on Long Island have roots in Rockaway and deep affection for the people and place. They stopped by The Wave last week and to show Matt’s custom made Rockaway Tide Clock. He brought in four sample clocks, each with unique colors and adorned with touches like decorative fish hooks or boat anchor. He insisted we keep them as gifts (we were happy to! And we liked them even more than the cookies they brought, which we loved). Besides the cool look – we think they’re practical! Who doesn’t want to know when high tide is these days?

We encouraged him to visit local merchants about having the tide clocks sold in their stores. For more information, send him an email at justanotherengine@gmail.com
