CB14 Reports: Beach Walls Update According to Community Board 14:

The Parks Department contractors will be replacing the beach/baffle walls that ran from Beach 126th to Beach 149th Streets. As you know, they will be 4 feet high verses the 3 foot height they originally where before the storm. The walls will be attached to 25 foot steel pilings that will be driven into the ground to keep the walls in place. The DEP water main work is ongoing for the next 2- 3 weeks. Hours of DEP work should be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Blocks will experience water shut offs due to the water work.

Parks expects the pile driving for the beach walls to start in early May and run through late June. Work hours will be 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. After the piles are installed, the contractor will install the concrete wall sections. The Army Corps is working with the Parks Department to determine wall heights relative to the expected sand replenishment program.

Also, as the water work finishes the street end will be restored with asphalt. We will keep you updated as we get additional information.
