The kids and staff at Miss D’s Playgroup enjoy the new Playground in a Cart play system. A grant from Creative Circle and KaBOOM! made it possible. During and immediately following Hurricane Sandy, Miss D’s Playgroup, a Far Rockaway daycare, preschool and gathering spot for children ages 2-12, acted as a resource center for the community, serving as a gathering place for residents displaced by the storm. It provided a place where those in need could seek shelter and have access to food, water, and other necessities.

To support the service that Miss D’s Playgroup provided to the community during the storm and to neighborhood children on a regular basis, Creative Circle, a staffing agency for creative professionals and the non-profit KaBOOM! awarded Miss D’s Playgroup a $20,000 grant for an Imagination Playground in a Cart™play system.

The Playground system, a play space concept developed by architect David Rockwell, is designed to encourage child-directed, unstructured free play, while promoting creativity and imagination as part of play time.

The system was unveiled last month and kids throughout the neighborhood have already taken to it.
