Brace for Detour on Rockaway Beach Boulevard

By Katie McFadden

As work continues on Rockaway’s main boulevards, drivers can expect to take some detours for several weeks.

Contractors are working with the New York City Department of Design & Construction on a project to install storm sewers, sanitary sewers and water mains on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive.

The contractor, CAC, was expected to begin storm sewer work around April 22nd but a definite date has not yet been set. As this work occurs, there will be a detour for west bound traffic along Rockaway Beach Blvd between Beach 90th Street and Beach 94th Street. This detour will go on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for approximately four weeks.

When they get confirmation from the contractor, the DDC is planning to send out an Advisory Notice at least one week before the detour is set to take place. A notification was not sent out yet, but drivers can expect this detour to come soon as the contractor has been notified that Rockaway Beach Boulevard must be open by May 24th.
