Little Leagues Pitch in for Rockaway
In its effort to get Rockaway’s kids back on the field of play, Rockaway Little League has been bolstered by the good wishes and generosity of Little Leagues from around the country, including Putnam Valley Little League of New York and Mountain Ridge Little League of Nevada.
Joe Kesselmark and John Millicker from Westchester County came down to Rockaway on Saturday, April 13th, to present a $500 check and donated baseball equipment to the Rockaway Little League. The generous check and donated equipment were courtesy of the Putnam Valley and Cortland National Little League’s in Westchester County.
The donated equipment (bats, balls, gloves, helmets, cleats and catchers gear) will be used by the Rockaway Little League and will also be handed out to local residents who lost baseball equipment due to Hurricane Sandy. Some of the equipment was shared with the Blessed Trinity CYO program. Rockaway Little League and Putnam Valley Little League officials are planning on organizing a league-wide home and away series between the two organizations for some time in the summer, at the conclusion of the in-house season.
Earlier this month, Mountain Ridge Little League in Las Vegas shipped 65 new batting helmets to the Rockaway Little League. Orion Development Group, a Rockaway-based management consulting firm, paid for the shipment from Nevada.
