Lots To Learn About FEMA

Dear Editor:

I learned a lot of things at the Community Board meeting. The average person still has no idea what the ramifications are of FEMA’s policies (NY and NJ residents). As word spreads there will be more anger and more people will be attending these meetings.

The FEMA rep basically stated the minimum information as possible. He did not elaborate on the exorbitant flood insurance premium increases, that the V zones “should” be substantially reduced in the future maps, that a home built to the new BFE in an A zone costs $1,500 a year flood insurance and a similar home in aV zone is $6,500 a year. He did not mention that the grant money is 6-24 months away from being dispersed.

How do you make a determination on whether to rebuild, raise, add a level or simply walk away from the house if you do not have the facts and data to make an informed decision?
