Gallagher Makes Mayor’s Cup

It’s official. Scholars’ Academy’s Taylor Gallagher has been named to the Mayor’s Cup 2013 all-star roster.

The Rockaway student was chosen to play forward on the select basketball team representing the Public School Athletic League.

As the program’s website states, “The NYC Mayor’s Cup brings together the best athletes from the five boroughs.”

“The NYC Mayor’s Cup series celebrates the dedication and hard work of the City’s student athletes,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization.

“This year we are proud to bring together the PSAL’s and CHSAA’s (Catholic High Schools Athletic Association) best high school seniors for a game that will be one for the history books.”

This year’s Mayor’s Cup event marks the first time in more than 50 years that the two leagues will compete against each other in an officially sanctioned allstar basketball competition.

Gallagher, who has been a star player at Scholars’ Academy for the past few years, was chosen for the PSAL all-star team over hundreds of other student athletes.
