Their t-shirts read “I’m Back.” “I’m Back!” announced the bright yellow t-shirts worn by the smiling children who attended the first day of West End Temple’s newly re-opened kindergarten.

Nursery School Director Sherry Bernstein and her staff warmly welcomed more than a dozen children and their parents to the festive event on Wednesday, April 3rd. Balloons, bright colors and smiles abounded that morning.

Both the neighborhood and the school were deeply affected by the storm. Bernstein explained that many of the children had been displaced for months after the hurricane and other families are just beginning to return.

The school itself operated from borrowed spaces until their home facility was completely repaired and refurbished.

The temple and school are located at 147-02 Newport Avenue in Neponsit.

Bernstein commented that the school’s return was very much a cooperative effort. She stated she was grateful to have “a great team, great project coordinator and staff, great support from the Temple and parents, and, of course, great kids.”
