Back Up For Lifeguards Needed

Dear Editor:

Although comfort stations are important, in view of the many recent drownings along the beach, I think it would be a far better idea to have a large NYPD outpost (such as in Times Square) with an added “Bird” (Helicopter) on its roof for surf rescue. It is warranted and comfort stations could be added as well. Satellite comfort stations could be added along the beach/boardwalk.

The only two US Coast Guard Rescue stations have been removed from both ends of the Rockaway Peninsula. 7.5 million people visit Rockaway every year. The Rockaway Beach Lifeguards do an outstanding job protecting the public, but let’s get them the back-up help they need!

And remember, there is now only one hospital serving the Rockaway Peninsula.

Just my 2 cents....(if it’s even worth that).
