Parks Deserves Some Praise

It was welcome news to many in the Arverne By The Sea community that the plan to install a comfort station at Beach 73rd Street has been shelved. We did not take a position on where comfort stations should go (though building piers above jetties and putting comfort stations on them is a long term wish). What we did approve is the way that new community came together and made clear their opposition to the placement of the comfort station. We also have to give the devil its due, here. The NYC Parks Department was responsive to Arverne and Community Board 14. We’ve been told since January that Parks was asking for input. When it seemed that they were asking merely for show, The Wave and the community called them on it. Well, we’re pleasantly surprised to say that Parks deserves credit for listening. There’s a long, long way to go before we can trust that they’ll remain responsive but for now, good job, Parks.
