Brooklyn Party To Help Rockaway Beaches

Brooklyn small businesses are rallying to get Rockaway beaches ready for summer. They’ll be hosting a benefit party on Wednesday, March 27th, with live DJs, raffle prizes and merchandise from local vendors.

After Hurricane Sandy wiped out the Rockaways in late October, the Rockaway Beach Surf Club sprang into action. Crain’s Business New York has called RBSC “the nerve center for its neighborhood’s post- Sandy relief efforts.”

However as donations and media coverage of hurricane affected areas like Rockaway have waned, the need for such efforts like RBSC’s has continued and in some cases grown.

With this in mind, Pop Up Yoga NYC Founder Angelica Olstad spearheaded a month-long series of nonprofit yoga classes, leading up to a wrap party at the Modca Café, 103 N 3rd Street, in Brooklyn. The Café is located in Williamsburg between

Berry Street and Wythe Avenue, near the Bedford Avenue L train station.

Generous local vendors have donated raffle prizes including a private chef in-home dinner for two, gift cards to local restaurants, clothing and skincare shops, private yoga sessions, and many more!

The evening will also feature a bring-your-ownmat, non-profit yoga class at 7:30 p.m.

All raffle proceeds, and a percentage of all merchandise sales, will go directly to Rockaway Beach Surf Club to fund ongoing reconstruction of NYC’s coastline

Rockaway Beach Surf Club is a resilient group of local surfers determined to rebuild their coastline. Their hard work and positive mindset following Sandy attracted Pop Up Yoga NYC to the group.

Proceeds from this event and the yoga classes leading up to it, will go to RBSC to purchase tools, supplies, and building materials for the Rockaway Beach recovery effort.

As the event’s hosts have said, “Yogis and Surfers unite! Bring your friends, win great prizes, and be a part of the solution!”
